    Hi Emanuele,

please find enclose a Pathfinder FTSE 4H V6 version for small accounts (5k). To be honest FTSE isn’t my preferred Pathfinder version and I don’t trade it in life. In my opinion you need at least 5k to get a good risk/reward ratio (336% profit with 20% max dd).

    Hi Reiner,

Its been some time since i visited this forum and you have made significant progress form what i can see. Congratulations on that! I just wonder if you have updated version with seasonal pattern but without positi onsize management improvements for DAX, just positionsize = 1? I have few ideas around risk management which work very well on backtesting for other strategies. Thanks.

    Thanks Rainer,

I think to start in real with pathfinder DAX small (4K). In the future I will trade with FTSE for small account or other pathfinder for other instrument. Do you agree with my decision ?

Regarding my latest post on FTSE 4h, it seems as though I started the system a bit late and got out of sync somehow with the signals.

If I set starting date Jan 17 4pm, the backtest matches live trading, but if I set starting date as Jan 18 1am then the backtest matches my out of sync live trading.

    Have a nice weekend all!

    Hi Emanuele,

I agree that the DAX version has the best risk/reward ratio. Don’t expect to much from an automatic trading system it’s not a professional trader and the gain is the result of hundreds of trades. It’s not fast money and you need a lot of patience and perseverance.

    Hi absent1980,

welcome back. The last version V6 of Pathfinder contains everything what I had planed at the beginning. In my opinion the system is well balanced but of course not a holy grail.I let it run as it is with an 10k account and observe if life trading results are comparable with the backtest. As I mentioned before trading an automatic system such as Pathfinder is a long journey and you need  a lot of patience.

Don’t hesitate to share your ideas we are all very keen to make the system better.

I have started to look into adapt the pathfinder for different FX. Right now I´ve started with Aud/Usd since it only has 0.6 pips spread and I will try to make my way trough them all.

Is there someone more than me that is interested in the FX market?

    Hi,

I’ve been reading all of pathfinder’s history and discussion. The constructive atmosphere reminds me of open source software projects. Very inspiring!

Trying to understand what pathfinder really does, I tried to port it to MetaTrader (MQL4). Key for the system to work is the special smoothed moving average:

I know what a WilderAverage is. https://mahifx.com/mfxtrade/indicators/wilders-moving-average has an implementation ready definition:

    Wilder EMA formula = price today * K + EMA yesterday (1-K) where K =1/N (Where N = the number of periods.)

I did not find an exact definition of TimeSeriesAverage. Documentation just says “Temporal series moving average”. My assumption is: This is the SMA of the WilderAvergage, correct?

If it was an EMA, then the main indicator would be close to TEMA (https://www.prorealcode.com/documentation/tema/ )

Later in the code, there is filter criteria like  “Average[periodLongMA](close)”. Average without specifiying a second parameter for the average type appears to be a SMA (https://www.prorealcode.com/documentation/average/). Correct?

Are there any screenshots of the moving average in a chart?

    Regarding dailyHigh, weeklyHigh etc.

This is the high of the current week or the current rolling 7 calendar day period?

In the very beginning there was a hint about HMA (Hull Moving Average). This looks promising, too. It is very smooth and almost lag-free. Has anyone played around with the indicator?

    Happy trades!

    Hallo Jens und Willkommen,

as I mentioned in the first post, the system based on four components that work perfectly togehter.

    • signalline – instrument trend line based on two smoothed averages (Wilder and Time Series)
    • breakout levels – previous daily, weekly and monthly high/lows in combination with fast and slow averages as filters because not every breakout is profitable
    • saisonal behavior – position size will be boost with a multiplier for each month depending on the historical seasonal behavior
    • smart money and position management – grid orders, maximal position size monitoring, superordinate stop loss/take profit, trailing stop and maximum holding periods are used mechanisms

Many things are related to PRT functionality such as grid order logic and other things are related to the IG Markets data model (24 quotes, sunday quotes) so it’s hard to migrate this system with comparable results to MQL4. To make life easier I recommend to use Hull average as signalline because it delivers nearly the same results. The breakout filters are SMAs and the breakout levels are the high/low from last trading day (on Monday it is last Sunday for DAX, FTSE and DOW), last week and last month.

PRT offers with the ProOrder module a server based automatic trading platform works very reliable and this was for me the reason to choose this software. The only disadvantage is that this functionality works only with IG and not with other brokers such as Interactive. Unfortunately IG doesn’t offers micro lots and some spreads are definitely to high but in general it works very well.

    Hi Reiner and others.

Oil took a position this morning at 00.00 o’Clock @ 5,342 after trying to get in position from 23.00 hours on yesterday evening.

All these efforts were rejected of course, because the market was closed.

My question is actually: how is it possible that this commodity tries to take a position at 23.00 hours instead of at 01.00 hours in the morning?

The template is the same as all other commodites and indices. I assume others had this issue as well…

    Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,

this post actually belongs into the Pathfinder swing topic. To be honest I have no clue why PRT tried to buy at Sunday night. In my opinion this is an error.

Thank you Reiner for your answer.

I noticed it was in the wrong forum, it was too late to change it.
