Hi guys, this topic is for all discussions related to the Pathfinder trading system strategies. The system based on four components that work perfectly together. signalline – instrument trend line based on two smoothed averages (Wilder and Time Series) breakout levels – previous daily, weekly and monthly high/lows in combination with fast and slow averages as filters because not every breakout is profitable saisonal behavior – position size will be boost with a multiplier for each month depending on the historical seasonal behavior smart money and position management – grid orders, maximal position size monitoring, superordinate stop loss/take profit, trailing stop and maximum holding periods are used mechanisms The Pathfinder breakout logic works well for many instruments with 24 hour quotes such as DAX, DOW, FTSE, Hang Seng, NIKKEI in 4 hours timeframe. All versions are optimized for an 10k Euro account. Pathfinder strategies offer a statistical advantage but are of course not a holy grail and there is no guarantee to make money with it. The systems are optimized for historical data and historical gains are not a guarantee to be successful in the future. I strictly recommend to adjust the position sizes to your personal account size and try first in demo mode. The results in life trading will differ from the backtest results. I also recommend to start in life trading with a small account size. Anyone can use the programs for free and at their own risk. Pathfinder is my private and fully transparent algorithmic trading project exclusively implemented for ProRealTime 10.3. The status is experimental and I don’t trade all the systems presented here. Have there been a post about how the stop loss is made in Pathfinder and also how to adjust it. I run OMX v6b2 2013 version with following settings:

ONCE positionSize = 1
Capital = 10000
Risk = 2
ONCE stopLossLong = 5.5 // in %
ONCE stopLossShort = 3.25 // in %
ONCE takeProfitLong = 3.5 // in %
ONCE takeProfitShort = 2 // in %
ONCE trailingStartLong = 2.75 // in %
ONCE trailingStartShort = 0.5 // in %
ONCE trailingStepLong = 0.7 // in %
ONCE trailingStepShort = 0.7 // in %
Max 5 minicontracts

Atm I see that the stop order is -8000. with a 10000 account that is a little bit to far 🙂

Anyone who can explain how it works or point me to a post where it is explained it would be much appreciated!

Hi Hakke. Initially the pathfinder system is intended to a 10000 euro account, which is around 95000 SEK and not 10000 SEK. and yes Pathfinder are risking a lot at each trade- but it is almost never reached. I been trying to find a formula and graph to indicate the risk, but it’s very complicated due to the structure of Pathfinder. One has to be willing to accept the money management risk with pathfinder and therefore a relative low RR. you can try and look through the post for more writings about the risk.

My dow 4h v6 version was stopped due an preloadbar issue. I forgot to make a screenshot of the error. In demo it didn’t stopped. Does someone know what I could’ve done wrong? I’m using the same code as on my demo account.

The preloadbars should be at 10.000, but you probably also saw that.

Alco I’ve had that problem with some algos, not only Pathfinder. IG didn’t have any good answer sadly for me when I reported it. I just restart them.

Elsborgtrading: thanks, I know its for larger accounts but still if it is calculated from initial account my guess is that it’s risk would become smaller. I’ll try and search some more on risks among the posts. Read them tons of times already so one more time cant hurt 🙂

It’s weird, dow 4h v6 works normal on demo account. And with my real account I got this error. Today I got the same error with ftse in my demo account. I just can’t find the reason why. It’s irritating if I need to restart the system over and over again.

Pathfinder-FTSE-4H-V6 opens yesterday (30/01/2017) at 9 pm @ 7131.7 a short trade in live but not in backtest… Why this difference ?

For me, the short trade (live) opened on Jan 23 5pm at 7135.9 and closed on Jan 30 1pm at 7134.5 and backtest confirms this.
