Brisvegas – one of the rules for posting on these forums is that you are polite and courteous to other forum members. You seem to always have some sort of issue with any thoughts or ideas that I post and then in response you post non constructive, normally provocative responses to them. Can I suggest that in future if you don’t like any of my thoughts, ideas or opinions that you don’t bother to read them and then you won’t be tempted to reply in your non constructive, mildly aggressive manner.

When replying to posts before pressing submit read your post and ask yourself if it has an aggressive, rude or provocative tone and goes against forum rules. If you find it does then do not press submit. Some thoughts are best left in your head rather than posted on forums.

In your last post you said:

Someone pulls out an alledgely #figjam minimally curve fitted >90% WR with profit factor of the scale and now declares buy and hold the holy grail … WTF

If you read back you will see that I have never declared it to be what you describe it as – in fact I was using it as an example of how a strategy can look great but because the data sample is so small we cannot be certain that it is not horribly curve fitted until we have extensively forward tested it. My thoughts are that it isn’t heavily curve fitted but we can never know until we have a big enough data sample that it has been tested on.

I also never declared buy and hold to be the holy grail – I agreed with justisan that it was a good comparison for our strategies but that with spread betting as our tool it was a difficult one to achieve. Hardly the holy grail then.

I look forward to your future polite and courteous and friendly posts.

Ok guys, this is a very interesting discussion but it is also a dead end IMO. No one will ever get this right. There is no absolute truth about what is best or not, everyone want to stay green and  every way to do it is welcome. I did (and still sometimes do) learn many things from what I though absolutely silly or useless at the first glance..

Keep in mind that indicators are maths based on price and price is people pushing buttons, so using indicators is just another way to follow everyone’s opinion about market trending up or down.. (depending of what the indicator you are using is made for).

The key is price action and working out why the candles do what they do, there is an explanation. I can’t give too much away but take a look at this DAX chart from this morning, it gives you all you need really, well a clue but it’s taken me a lot of work to get here.

The problem I have is I can’t trade, the psychological and emotional side of things and the size of my account is a massive hindrance hence my attempt at algos.

To end my original question, sadly the MTF feature isn’t going to work for me. See the second attachment.

    Thanks for the discussion though.

In MTF there’s a MAIN timeframe, it’s the lowest one, the one you use to launch your strategy, all other TFs used in your strategy MUST be multiple of the main one!

If you launch your strategy from a 10-minute chart (default TF), your strategy cannot use the 15-minute TF because 15 is not a multiple of 10.

Thanks. I understand the error but it still isn’t going to work for me for that reason.

I also stopped coding with MTF as some of my best strategies trade on a weekly time frame and you cannot use the weekly and monthly time frames together. I then realised that you can use 4 week and 1 week which is good enough for my analysis:
