    Hi

    I have one question before I start to spend serious time with ProRealTime.

    Is there anyone out there who can say they make money with the IG ProRealTime version 10.3  software using automated trading system/systems OR at the very least make more money than they lose.

    All the best to all who try to attain the above

    Yes it is possible to be profitable using automated trading with PRT (even though the platform is sometimes frustrating). Just keep it simple and your expectations realistic.

    Yes.

    You can expect anyone that answers this to answer yes. Beware of survivorship bias.

    The first 100+ trades were manual…

    Then I started PRT assisted automated strategies without “prorealcode forum” until the 200th trades…

    Once I discovered this forum and after going trough mostly all the treads, strategies, tests and backtests myself etc… the equity curves seemed to take the right direction… Fingers crossed !

    FYI: It requires quit some time and PASSION !

    Good Luck DOn 😉

    Directional automated trading using propitiatory systems  – yes;

    Non directional (market making and arbitrage) automated trading using propitiatory systems – yes;

    Directional trading using retail services – Not really / Break even at best. Why? Lack of resilience and power to the individual user; restrictions in the framework; no proper SLA; Clue: important to understand how they make money themselves 🙂

    PRT – fantastic for super fast modelling and testing; great graphics; great for idea generation. Not for real production on serious capital.

    Sorry if I took the jam out of anyone’s donuts 🙂 :-p

    Best,

    M

    Glad to know where my jam ended up, Maz!!!

    @MAZ, mind telling us a bit more about these propitiatory systems you refer to? Asking for a friend 🙂

    Just a reminder: advertising is allowed as long as it deals with prorealtime platform .. obviously 😉

    @DOn The majority of strategies you try will not be able to make you any money. If you have the patient and time to do proper testing you will be able to make money. If your expectations are to just be able to press play and then do something else.. You are not very likely to succeed with this.

    I am back from holiday and really pleased to see replies from Seniors and Masters. I know if this were simple it would be just a license for everyone to print money and clearly only central banks can do that with QE.

    I just wonder if those of you who do make money would be prepared to point me in the right direction ie which indicators it might be wise to look at.

    thank you to you all but in particular to Nicolas Maz and Inertia

    I’m also a beginner, started PRT on 2016 Q4, and learn all knowledge from this great forum. Now running 8 algo with 2 core system over 6 months, bring me some pocket money, but the most important is help me more concentrate on my work with auto trading.

    One of my core system is breakout system with MA filter at Hang Seng which I share before, core idea was from Reiner DAX Breakout system and Nicolas trailing stop.

    One is trigger with a modified stochastic indicator and filter by a trend definer, all componet also learend (copy😜) from this forum.

    So my own opinion is all kind of cycle indicator may workable e.g.: RSI , stochastic, MACD…but trend define is most important (eg MA). Let me  never short at a bull trend market. Also walk foward test, Monte Carlo simulation and demo run is a must before you invest real money.
