DDE Links to Excel

May I ask, do any of the 3 broker trading accounts PRT promotes (Saxo, IB and IG) offer DDE linking of real time data to an excel spreadsheet via their own broker versions of the PRT software ?

Many thanks indeed for any kind help anyone can offer.

    Hi @Canoehq

There is already a lot of information on the forum about “DDE -Links”…

Maybe here are all your answers…

Thank you, yes. Unfortunately, I did notice that many of those posts were from a number of years ago and as time has now moved on, I wondered if someone knew if the situation had changed / improved ?

    Hi @Canoehq

I don’t use DDE links, maybe there is someone on the forum who uses this and can say something about it…?

    Hi @Canoehq,

I am not sure what your question is about specifically (to me it reads a kind of ambiguously) but

    • The DDE links works as advertised for the PRT-IB platform (PRT with broker IB). However :

I never could find any use case for it, because when you read the texts here and there literally … it is for “quotations” of prices. And Yes, that is what you can do with it. So your spreadsheet will show the changed prices in pretty real-time (read : at the same moment the prices show in the charts ort lists (maybe a couple of ms later) the price appears in Excel too).
And then what ? Then it shows the same data you already have on-screen per that List ?

If only someone got the brilliant idea that it could show the data from e.g. the portfolio. But sadly it only works from Lists you have on screen. And Lists are just Lists. One exception : you determine what is in a List, so the Excel forms from that List. And careful : as far as I recall from one List only (you might have several on screen).

Maybe @Nicolas can describe what this can actually be used for. Technically it is such a nice feature …

Thanks Nicolas, that is extremely kind of you to confirm and just what I wanted to hear.

I was asking because the last time this issue was raised on this forum, the answer given was ‘the DDE download function was only available and operating correctly via an account held directly with PRT, but did not work via the broker versions from IG/IB etc.

However, as your answer mentions ‘technically’, does that imply there is a chance that the DDE download may not operate via the IB version ?   My thinking is that I don’t want to go through all of the hassle and rigmarole of opening accounts at IG and IB to access their versions of PRT, only to find this effort has been wasted because they have somehow restricted the DDE part of PRT in some way, so that it does not operate as it should.

Once again, many thanks indeed for your kind responses everyone.

Works fine with a PRT Trading/IB account (see attached picture).

You’re very kind and much appreciated.

I’ll head over to IB then.
