Reducing a position or “taking half off”

    Hi, I’m sure I have seen it somewhere before but I can’t for the life of me find it…am I right in thinking that proorder cannot close half of a position while in the market.

    I am developing a strategy that requires half of the trade to be “banked” at a certain point and the rest of the trade to be allowed to run.

    Is this possible in v10.3? I know I can do it manually but I want my auto to be able to do it as well.

    If that is not doable is it possible to open 2 simultaneous trades at one time and then close out only one of them automatically via my system.

    You can accumulate as many positions you want (only one way), but MUST close ALL of them at the same time, no matter whether you are using v10.3 or v11.

    Partial closures are currently only available for backtesting.

    Ah okay, I didn’t realise I could do it in backtesting I’ll have to figure that one out. Thankyou.

    It’s so annoying that IG won’t allow it in auto trading, any ideas why?

    No, I haven’t.

    But I hope when they start supporting v11 (maybe Q1 2021), this feature will be supported as well.

    That would be ace if they did, i’ve found it’s such a fundamental part of many systems! But untill then I guess we just muddle on. 🙂
