So I have 2 PRT accounts: a personal one, and one from IG, or IG Singapore to be exact. The frustrating thing is IG Singapore uses 12 midnight SG time as EOD cut off time, so as you can imagine, Daily candles and indicators are all different from the industry standard one, which uses 5pm NY Time as the EOD cut off (tho I read somewhere PRT uses 12 midnight London time as cut off for its EOD, which strictly speaking, shud be using 5pm NY time following industry standard).
Anyway, my qn is, since I did some backtesting using my own PRT account, can I connect IG to my personal PRT account? IE, run algo using my personal PRT account and execute IG from there.
Pls advise…tks
Hi mr Jack,
If I understand your question correctly, then the answer is Yes.
You can Backtest under your personal account and when done, Export the code to an .itf file. This .itf file you can import under PRT-IG and run it from there (continue backtesting, put to the Demo account from IG or put to Live).
but
I don’t know what in your situation a personal account is, but if it is what I think it is you would backtest in there with Interactive Brokers (IBKR) data and about nothing will be the same under PRT IG(‘s data). So your code will do exactly the same, but the data is too different (on the virtual same instruments – e.g. Nasdaq) to make any “sense” out of it. Anyway, backtest both environments carefully for being equal.
Kind regards,
Peter
PRT IG and PRT have 2 different sets of data, so using the same code will yield different resuts…
If that is a statement, then Yes, that is what I was saying.
If it is a question, then maybe this additional clarification helps :
IG uses CFDs for say the Nasdaq Future. With that, they can create their own price. The NQ (you will see with your personal PRT) is still underlaying, but in a super vague fashion.
Besides this, IG uses her own “community”. This is how they can also let you trade the Nasdaq e.g. in weekends.
It is thus not about the backtest data (this is representative for either situation within itself) – it is just that you can’t make a strategy for the personal PRT which will work under PRT-IG.
Clear a little ?
… But maybe I am not understanding you for 100% …
You can set your algo to be run on your desired timezone, change it with right click on a chart, set your custom trading hours (and timezone) and then launch a backtest from this chart and prepare for auto trading.
In order to auto trading, you can now also use an IBKR account, see this dedicated topic: Automated trading with Interactive Broker and ProRealTime
