PRT Becomes Unresponsive

Yeah I’ve always though the same Vonasi, I hate all the little faffing / admin tasks I have to do with PRT … it often puts me off doing stuff!

There should be a central repository for PRT .itf files with a proper file / folder management function. It’s like PRT think we have 4 or 5 Strats, Indicators etc and that we can recall what the filename is from one day to the next that we were working on last?? If there was a last modified date then a quick sort by date and … oh yeah that was the one I was doing last night!

I have exported all mine in the past to my PC, but its surprising how quick they build up again!?

Hope you have a breakthrough when you start backtesting on Live? I’ve never noticed that I only have issues on Demo, but I’ll monitor in future.

    Cheers
    GraHal

PS Is that boat in Greece  your ‘day job’ or are you living off the fruits of your (trading) labours!!?? 🙂

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve sleepy eyed got to the computer in the morning and then thought ‘Now what the hell was the name of that strategy I was working on last night?’ Then wasted fifteen minutes looking for it only to suddenly realise that I didn’t ever give it a name and it is ‘My Indicator(26)’ – doh!

No day job. In 2005 my girlfriend and I decided to opt out of the rat race and go off sailing so we sold up in the UK and we see no reason to come back yet. Amazing how cheap life is if you don’t own a house, a car or have to drink in UK pubs! Oh and not having kids helps too. The trading is just something I got interested in when the interest rates got so low that looking for riskier options became more tempting. There is only so much money you can put into Peer2Peer lending. I’d forgotten how enjoyable the problem solving when programming is and I love probability, statistics and maths (just don’t tell anyone). I’m only really dabbling at the trading thing and while I’m up I’ll keep dabbling till I’m down.

Two more lock ups of PRT Demo today. One after the other just after running a backtest. Started in one hour chart, ran backtest, switched to four hour chart so backtest ran again and then PRT became unresponsive.  I found a performance report chart for another strategy that is on live forward test under the main chart that I did not request. Unable to send a report as usual.

I haven’t posted any lock ups of PRT recently as I’ve been too busy – but that does not mean I have not had any!

I think that my Demo PRT must have become unresponsive at least six times yesterday and then last night I had a worrying development. I put a strategy live on my real money PRT Complete platform and it opened a position so I left the platform running on my laptop overnight so that I could check it during the night. This morning I woke up to find that my PRT Complete had become unresponsive. There were only two windows open, a chart with one indicator on it and the running strategies window which was showing that the bet was still open and up £31 when in fact it had closed for a £59 profit. The window minused down but disappeared never to be seen again.

This is a worrying development as an unresponsive platform that takes quite a while to shut down and re-load is no good for live trading.

I was also getting odd things happening on Live 2 days ago, I’d close a position, but it then remained on the screen as a ‘greyed out version’ of the Trade / Order.

Also  I’d close trades, but they still showed on IG (old platform), but when I did manual refresh they disappeared.

    Hello all,

I have talked with our technical team, but they are not aware of any generalised issues. The best thing to do would be to send a technical report when this happens again (even if, of course, it would be after the freeze has happened and you have restarted your platform). This would help us identify your platforms and analyse the reports. Moreover, if you think that you have had similar problems at the same time, feel free to add this information in your technical report. This will surely help our technical team find out if there are any generalised issues. Feel free to also reference this post, so that they can read the full conversation.

    All the best,

PRT Demo just became unresponsive again (second time today). This time however I was able to send a technical report. I was not able to click on ‘Modify’ on the Performance Report window nor was I able to click on the spanner in the equity chart window and the x on the top bar would not shut down PRT. I had to resort to Task Manager to shut it down. I had just written a new strategy and tested it for the first time before the lock up.

    @Vonasi
Since this symptom seems sporadic to your account, I think it is most certainly related to your hardware configuration or a Windows problem. Did the problem appear on another computer with your account?

Hello Nicolas. At the moment I don’t think that I have another laptop with enough RAM to cope with running PRT to use as a comparison. Unfortunately this is one of the limitations of living on a boat!

Funny, I experienced the same issue GraHal mentioned about 2 weeks back where PRT would close a trade but it still showed as open on IG’s platform, only to dissapear after a refresh. I called IG about it, yet their only advice was that it must be my hardware and I should just occasionally do a refresh of my screen.

Then regarding the lockup issue, I regularly experienced it on my old Laptop running Win7 along with an i7 and 8GB RAM connected via a 4G connection.

Then after I upgraded my laptop in December to the latest Dell Latitude with 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a top of the range i7 7820HQ running on the latest Windows 10 build I am still experiencing the lockup issue.

I am also now connected via a new fibre internet connection and with a completely new IG account, and I am still occasionally experiencing the PRT Lockup issue.

Maybe I should install screen recording software and document the lockup. Because the only thing that PRT seems to do is request a Technical Report, yet nothing seems to come of it?

As a Systems Analyst I wish I could be a fly on the wall of their development teams office in order to see what is (or isn’t) going on there.

Which would indicate that it is not a hardware issue but a PRT or Java issue.

I had one more Demo lockup last night and another this morning. I left my Complete running all night and it was still responsive this morning. I plan to transfer everything to my new Premium account over the next few days hopefully and it will be interesting to see if I have any issues with that platform.

    Hello Juanj,

As I suggested to Vonasi, please send us a technical report if you have issues with your platform. We really need technical reports to be able to study your issue and to run a diagnostic analysis. After the analysis, we reply directly to the customer.

Please note that we only directly receive the technical reports of IG sponsored by ProRealTime customers, or customers who have a ProRealTime Software or a ProRealTime Trading (with Interactive Brokers) account. If you are not in these categories, please also send an email to support@prorealtime.com referring to this post and indicating the number of your IG account, so that we can retrieve your technical report and analyse it.

    All the best,

    Ilaria

A worrying development. I have a real money live automatic trading position open on the SP500 DFB on my Complete platform that I was considering closing manually but the ”x’ next to the position line on the chart is unresponsive as is the ‘x’ in the Open Positions window – so I am unable to close the position. I will have to try changing my settings to close positions if I stop a strategy and then try stopping the strategy to close it. It is this sort of situation that I was worried about when PRT started becoming unresponsive/hanging. I have sent a technical report to PRT.

Some buttons become unresponsive, that is almost always the first thing I notice.

Then it is almost as if more and more buttons become unresponsive until you have to close the application via task manager.

Once restarted you are good to go again (until the next time).

I shut down the platform (not via task manager but via the top right ‘x’) and restarted the platform but it is just the same after the restart.
