I use 4 hour charts for trading and can only seem to get 4 years of data while back testing – this seems silly and surely I should be able to get at least 10 yrs of data?
Chris
As far as I know amount of historical data depends on instrument and timeframe (more popular more history basically) – that’s what I’ve experienced/discovered anyway
I have the famous Nicolas looking into this for me

I noticed this – in future please try to avoid posting the same question in two different places. 🙂
Dear ChrisNYE,
MaxT is right.
The amount of historical intraday data depends on the security you are looking at and the chosen time frame. In order to view all available historical data please select (x) units in the left-hand drop-down menu of the chart window and then type 100 000.
Best Regards,
I am sorry but this doe snot work. Someone mentioned PRT premium I believe this may be the case with mine. I could type in 100000000 and still on get 4 yrs of data

This is the critical bit that Ingrid wrote and most likely why the data period is limited.
Please tell us exactly which market you are looking at and it which time frame so we can all compare
I have worked out why apparently it has to do with some agreement between PRT and IG in Australia.

What Ingrid meant, I guess, is that if you type 100,000 (max. allowed) you’ll sometimes get less than that, then THAT is the maximum for that secutity & TF.
