Okay I know I should save regularly, but the PRT Platform doesn’t feel like a file on my computer (MS Word etc). I just haven’t got it infallibly into my brain (yet), most times I save, but sometimes I forget!

Platform closes after being open 12 hours and it only gives 2 minutes notice then closes and all work since last save (9.30 this morning, 12 hours ago!) and I was in the shower when it closed! Several hours work lost!

Its a stupid, annoying feature of PRT … anybody else agree?

Yes, have lost work once or twice, but mostly due to lost internet connection which has forced me to restart the platform. Never after 12 hours of work though. Ouch!

I’ve been there before, losing the result of a 100.000 combinations backtest at about 95%.

Additionally, it would be helpful to be informed if indicators or strategies can’t be saved becuase the maximum number has been exceeded.

Because it is not “saving” if results are being deleted without notification!

Also experiencing this unfortunately… I save regularly but this morning I started PRT (closed automatically last night but yes I had saved many times and no further changes except for partial edits to code) and 2 strategies I had created were gone!

I thought strategies were saved automatically when running/closing them?

One of them was running so I could copy/paste the code into a new strategy (and reconstruct the other from that) but am I correct in assuming strategies are only properly saved when exiting PRT?

(the auto exit does not seem to save much of anything even when I see it pop up and choose the save and exit – if I see it now I manually close the pop-up and save and exit PRT)

Also – am experiencing customisation of certain windows (orders list) is not saving the changes (I have to keep adding the System field!)

Oh! as I type I have just had to restart PRT and see we (IG) are now on PRT 10.3 – excellent! 🙂 will report back if still having these problems/hopefully they’re sorted in 10.3!

    Hi Max

If you make customisation changes to platform settings (colours, button preferences etc) then you do have to go to File, Save My Template (in v 10.3).

Yes it is confusing, you would think if you had assigned a Strategy a name and you can see it in the List of Strategies then that should be it (like an MS Office File). But NO … you have to go to File, Save My Template (in v 10.3).

If you  go File, Quit then you do need to click ‘Yes’ to Save My Template (v 10.3) to save the changes in the 2 paragraphs  above (if you have not already saved them).

Its that platform auto-close after 12 hours with 2 mins warning that kills me!

30 mins warning, with user option to set repeats every 2 mins and also option to set an  ‘audible alert on a Loop’.

would make sense and be user friendly!

I’ve emailed above in italics as a suggestion to PRT via IG.

    Cheers

Cheers GraHal and good to see you got a response from IG and I agree the ‘rapid’ forced close is excessive so hope things change

Also agree it is confusing re: saving as I have just today realised again I have lost a strategy I worked all yesterday on! 🙁 very frustrating

I just don’t get it… I can see the indicator that I imported and then based the strategy on so the indicator saved and yes I saved the template many times and opened and edited and ran the strategy many times yesterday but foolishly after a long day of working I just up and left my computer and didn’t do a final save and close PRT – there is no trace/no version of the strategy at all!

I had already started taking to copying and pasting the code into OneNote to file it away for safe keeping as cannot rely on PRT saving the strategies but again for some foolish reason did not so with yesterdays strategy 🙁

Finally – the ‘System Version’ column I am adding to the Order list ‘Automatic Trading’ tab still does not save and I have to keep adding it every time I reopen PRT…

    Cheers

    Hi Max

Just a thought … are you using ‘Save as’ or ‘Save My Template’ … to save settings (system version column etc) I think you would need to use Save As?? Not 100% sure without trying

Save my Template (new in 10.3 under ‘File’) is just that I think … not a ‘Template of the whole platform’ but simply a Chart layout Template (as in 10.2). Hope that makes sense.

Let us know if above helps at all?

    Cheers

    Hi GraHal

Thanks for the suggestion – just tried ‘Save As…’ and it just gives the option to save as a new template name (same as MSWord etc. – either ‘Save’ the file as the current filename/location or ‘Save As…’ choose a new name and/or location – both options would save the entire document)

I haven’t seen anywhere it is possible to save the customised column layout seperate to saving the template and thought ‘everything’ was in fact being saved under the ‘Save Template’

I think it is something to do with the autosave/getting kicked out that is loosing the strategies but nothing I do seems to keep the customised columns – anyway I will be much more careful and copy paste code into OneNote for safekeeping/backup and just put up with keep adding the system version column!

    Cheers

Apologies Max, seems I was thinking 10.3 would be as good as 10.2 re ‘old features’ and better than 10.2 re new features. You could just go File and save in 10.2 and System Version would be saved (??) … I’m doubting everything now! 🙂

If I get motivated, I might put it up to PRT (via IG) as an Issue. I’ll check on this Thread before I do in case you might send it in?

    Cheers

Glad to report customised columns are saving now which is great news however it is becoming an increasingly frustrating battle trying to keep on top of making sure latest edits/versions of strategies/indicators are saved

They only seem to be ‘commited to the save’ on EXIT of the platform – NOT during any manual save whilst using the platform… 🙁

No doubt this is due to technical reasons but yeh it is getting frustrating digging through code trying to make sure all those little edits/tweaks I did are still there/recreating them/not being 100% sure I’ve got things back to how they were etc.

Yes I agree Max, there’s a lot still wrong with the PRT Platform. It’s as if the ‘PRT Developer User Group’  don’t trial the Plaform re the features that we need … else they would sort the various annoyances.

I email PRT (via IG) re improvements, but it’s not what  enjoy doing, it takes time and I’m not making any money! 🙂

If only we could have sight of the PRT Roadmap for improvements  we could think … oh well, this or that is down to be looked at!? Also if a ‘PRT Rep respsonsible for improvements’ would join this website and check out Threads such as this and say … “Let me get this straight guys, what would you like to see as a improvement”?

How about it Nicolas …  any thoughts?

    GraHal

PS I’ll try a test now re ‘save Algo’ as that is very worrying if they only get saved on exit!? brb

PPS  Ah it does save …  so for edit Algo or Indicator … after edit, click x top right corner, then Go File, Save My Template. If you then Quit without saving the ‘edits’ will have been saved anyway. But best to discipline yourself to always Quit then click Yes to save Template.

    #22572

Its that save my Template located under File that is confusing? It never was under File on 10.2. Making an edit to an Algo or an Indicator is not an edit to a Template because that edit / Algo is available to all Templates! Oh you’ve got me going going now! 🙂 I feel another email to PRT coming on!! But if a PRT Rep was reading even just this Forum alone re Platform Improvements then it would save everybody time and an (even) better Platform would be the result!?

There’s afew features that I think were better in 10.2, for example the ‘top bar’ (see attached) was more visible where it was in 10.2 just below the Objects toolbar, not above as it is now in 10.3. I use that top bar to cancel / close several orders / positions all at once and it was more readily  available / visible under the  Objects Toolbar. I think Developers change things for change sake sometimes??  I like change too, it’s ‘as good as a rest sometimes’ but not when the change makes things worse!!??

Rant over 🙂 I might just send the last two or three comments above to IG and a link to this whole Thread??

Sorry if am getting you too concerned! Most of the issues I have come across have been my lack of understanding/knowledge of how PRT has been designed to work and those that don’t seem to be I am trying to work through rather than dwell on anything that doesn’t work the way I might like as main priority is to make some money! 😉

I don’t use different templates (layouts basically I think?) as am working through the coding logic at the moment creating different strategies and indicators to see how they work and and what it actually translates too in demo ProOrder (quite different than what I had otherwise thought for some commands – the Graph function is VERY useful to get a grip on what is actually going on!)

But yes it would seem that closing/saving or running a strategy/indicator ‘saves’ it in the lists but if the platform autocloses and I don’t ‘catch it’ (I always save on exit if am manually closing) any edits or new strategies/indicators are lost – yes unfortunately I still need to get more disciplined at closing rather than walking away to make a cuppa and come back to a blank screen (!) but am now purposefully often closing PRT to make sure they are saved and opening straight back up again as well as copying and pasting over into OneNote to make sure I am keeping on the latest edits

This is still very bad in PRT, it’s very easy to lose work.

Of course any code should be saved once you close the window, Llke in any normal application out there. It’s also quite normal for a cloud application to save every change immediately. PRT really needs to be modernized.
