Just found 9 (yes 9!) orphan trades on my Demo Account, don’t know how they got there!

I call them orphans, as I would not have opened 9 manual trades on Demo, but neither had 9 Algo’s closed leaving orphaned trades open.

They were all showing the same value minus / – £446 give or take £1 ish on each … well weird.

Anybody else had similar or anybody lost 9 trades!? 🙂

The last time I happened that was about two years ago!

On my side, happened before yesterday…

moreover, i persist in saying that for a long time it’s impossible to correctly test a strategy on a demo account…  (orphan trades, spread, etc, …..)

Surely a Demo Forward Test / Live running in Demo is a good test?  Spread is the same as Live and folks have had orphans even on Live Accounts / Live running.

It would be good if – on backtest – errors showed up … divide by zero, negative parameters etc?

Never had the case in live.. and if it is the case, it’s really serious !

i don’t think this is always the case for the spread..    SL that was taken on Demo and not on Live account (same bot.. ) , etc…

Grahal, I have just checked and no orphans in my demo account. I don´t remember to have any orphan in Demo, maybe but I don´t remember. I do remember to have one in real some years ago, I remember it well because it scared me a lot that something like that could happen more but it never happened again.

I agree with Makside that Demo doesn´t work very well for testing systems, lot of errors wich I don´t know the cause and doesn´t happen in real and differences in orden execution. Another difference that bother me  because I think it could be easily fixed is that they don´t have the same minimun position required for each active. For instance in DAX-Real is 0.5 and DAX-Demo is 1. Also they don´t react the same when this minimun is not reached, if I remember well in demo the order goes with the minimun and in real the system gives error and stop. I guess this doesn´t matter to many people because they use a fixed number of contracts but I work with differences in positionsize and is very annoying

Disappointing to read these instances still occur.

I remember this happened on a live account for me and the response from PRT was very unprofessional and even IG wasn’t able explain the response and even after I asked for further clariffication.

If you would like to see what they wrote to me let me know but once you read it you cannot unsee it.
