Order book missing

    Happy new year for everyone!

I congratulate you for the effort in creating, sharing and helping each other, it’s great to see such a community. This is my first post, however, I’m an active reader.

My question is, has anyone performed a workaround to access the order book of any asset? I have an IG CFD swiss based account, and in both demo and real mode, I’m not able to see the actual order book through PRT, as Nicolas describes in a past video (https://www.prorealcode.com/blog/video-tutorials/trading-from-the-order-book-depth-of-market-prorealtime/).

I think it would be great to have access to it for both use in the PRT platform and ProOrder automated strategies. I asked IG about this regarding their API access, and only institutional investors can access them via API, however, I had no reply regarding PRT.

    Any insight will be appreciated,

    Thank you!

I don’t feel that IG, a private company, which creates and hold their own derivatives (CFD) will share with you how much of their customers have bought or sellshort contracts and at what price levels. It would be an easy game for everyone 🙂

If you want order book access, you should think of centralized markets instead, not CFD.

Well, they actually do on their web based platform, you can activate this in My Account > Settings > Preferences and here you can enable Direct Market Access (DMA) for equity investments or you can enable Forex Direct to interact directly with IG’s forex order book. It would be great to have this information directly on the PRT platform provided by IG, and not having the web based platform on one side and PRT on the other, this is why I asked if there is a workaround.

Oh sorry, I didn’t know that. Well, PRT will only display order book information if the broker is sending it and seems to not be the case here..  There’s no workaround I’m afraid. Bear in mind that DMA is a ‘Direct Market Access’ with the centralized market and not the IG CFD’ contracts, so even if the CFD is somehow ‘linked’ to the ‘real’ market, the DMA informations are not something you can completely rely on when trading CFDs.

If you want to trade with the centralized market, you should give a try to this offer instead: https://www.prorealcode.com/PRT-TRADING-english/
