This is not directly an indicator request, but I think it´s the correct forum to post anyway, apologizes if not. My question is if it exists an indicator (most likely does) that measures how long a particular trailing stop in the market would last. I guess it’s related to volatility.

For example, let´s say we have a trailing stop of 50 pips. How many times in a fixed time period would that stop be taken out. I realize the timing of the measurement will make different results, but perhaps with an average this wouldn´t matter so much in the bigger picture.

Or the other way around, what kind of trailing stop would generally last longer in a fixed period of time?

So, what indicator shows this? I try to code something similar yesterday, but realized it probably already exists.

    Thanks!

I don’t think there’s an indicator, since to calculate those stats it would need to know:

    • what are the entry conditions
    • what’s the target profit
    • what’s the stop loss
    • what are the exit conditions
    • when the trailing has to start
    • what’s the step to trail profits

shortly… you need to code a strategy then convert it an indicator so that instead of opening a position it sets some variables to simulate trades.

    That’s what ProBackTest does.

Thanks! Although that´s not what I meant (my fault). I thought something like that existed. I continue to code something myself.

    Thanks again!

Mattias Please do not use the ‘Quote’ facility unnecessarily. Roberto was the only other person in your topic so quoting him is not required for him to know that you were answering him. Please use ‘Quote’ sparingly and only as and when described in the forum rules:

    • Be careful when quoting others in your posts. Only use the quote option when you need to highlight a particular bit of text that you are referring to or to highlight that you are replying to a particular member if there are several involved in a conversation. Do not include large amounts of code in your quotes. Just highlight the text you want to quote and then click on ‘Quote’.

I deleted the quote in your post.
