    Hi Guys

I just joined up and there is some serious science on here. My question is simple but important to me. I can’t work out how to set an alert to trigger (and preferably a buy/sell signal) when the trend direction of my MA changes. For my trading, this is the final piece of the jigsaw. Can anyone show me how to do this, please?

How would you define an MA changing trend?

Simply detecting an MA higher than the prior candle doesn’t imply a bullish change in the trend.

How about settings similar to attached?

For clarification … my post above shows an example of how to do it, not what to do. 🙂

Hi. Thanks for responding. I set an MA up with two colours for up and down, as you probably do. When the MA changes direction it is sometimes the final confirmation for me and that’s the alert/trigger I’d like to set up . The Nasdaq and 500 are coincidentally at this point now. My indicators are suggestion a directional change to the downside  is coming but my MA is still slightly trending up. I would love now to pop a sell order in to trigger if and when the MA changes colour/direction. The options for alerts/ entries on the MA are limited to greater/ less than, etc – nothing about directional change. It’s not a huge deal I just wondered if anyone knew any coding to tweak this.

Thanks for responding. I’m on it on setting up the triggers. You weren’t suggesting that the BB could replicate the point where the MA changes on a chart were you, were you? I’ve never used BBs but I know they revolve around a MA.

Check if MA > greather than MA 1 period ago (previous period)

and you may also add that the MA 1 period ago < than MA 2 periods ago (for longs)

and use bar close for the trigger

I was in a rush when I posted the Alert and Associated Trigger … I was showing the Crosses Over / Under option, but didn’t have time to set up a separate MA on my Chart.

Boll middle is an MA period 20.

Maybe you can use an MA with a period of 1 to show change of direction (of MA period x) or use Current Period and Previous Period?

Haven’t got time to think it all out for you so just off top of my head ideas.

I dont like using multiple conditions when setting up alerts, i try to use custom indicators when i can

In this case i would use a binary indicator and put it as a histogram at the bottom of chart

And then use cross over zero line for trigger (or cross under)

Following Eric’s good idea … you could try the inbuilt ROCnRoll Indicator and set an Alert on change from 2 to 1 and / or vice versa.
