I’m running 16 bots. In the long term they’re all well in profit but last week 12 of them lost money, a sizeable drop.
Curious to know how others fared, if this is typical across the board? Maybe some market conditions are just impossible to code for. Bull trap followed by bear trap and you just have to suck it up …
Any thoughts?
I had numerous bots on my Demo Accounts lose last week, long term the same bots are showing good profits.
Most of them with severe losses, specially in NASDAQ. Just one with profits but negligible.
I think that’s because many long bots are operated with very large SLs. These seldom lose, but when they do, they lose properly. like last week.
Hello … Taking into consideration all the transactions closed from 8 to 12 November of the 13 algorithms that I manage in my store, I had a positive balance of 630 euros.
4 Algorithms did not do any operation … 6 are positive and three negative …. I do not consider the operations open at this moment as it is not possible to know how they will close but at this moment they have a positive balance of 225 euros.

7 algos running (trend / long only)
1 algo closed last week with profit
6 algos still running but overall latent profit down with approximately 20%
I feel like I’m right I had the last three algos that were active. Also all long. One with TP, one with trailing stop and one with a small loss. The bottom line is a profit. May I ask how high your SL are set for your Algos? For me, nobody runs with a SL higher than 1%.

Only one bot of six bots (3 bots are similar) with an operation with economic damage, in the Dow Jones index.
However, the Nasdaq operation after approaching Take Profit, closed with breakeven.

I don’t use any SL or TP in my algos, the system “rules” determine when to buy or sell.
the results seem quite mixed, most reporting losses while others were immune to the bad weather. I’m still up 22% half way through the month so nothing to complain about, but for those who saw minimal downturn last week – Mauro, Skynet – would you say it was due to better entry conditions or better exit? Some key filter that keeps you out of a choppy market? Longer TFs worked better than short, or vice versa?
@JS According to which rules do you define the exit? Without asking for your secrets.
Hi nonetheless, entering more specifically it does not depend on the time frame but on how the algorithm is set, the dow jones 15 Minutes I have in the store operates both short and long so it has no problems when the market goes down …. I have a ‘ another 15 minutes on US500 only long that closed a trade with a small profit with the trailing stop and is now earning 300 euros by entering on November 12 on the lows (not in store), those I have on two hours, 2 have had a loss and the other 6 closed with a good profit with the trailing stop.

All my entry’s and exits are based on the standard deviation.
Normally the algorithms to have an excellent functioning over time, often the difference is made by the entry to the market that one manages with filters, and the management of the trade once it has entered the market, normally takes place more easily with long time frames.

I think that is probably key to why you did better over the past week. Mine are mostly running on 2min and 5min TF, not a problem in a proper downturn but if you look at the DAX, it’s been sideways since Nov 4. Still making new highs but in a non-committal sort of way … 15m TF is less likely to get confused by that.
@JS – standard deviation def something to look into, I’ve never worked with that. 👍
