Hi All – This is probably one of those stupid questions but here goes!

If I am in a trade initiated by an automated code and I wish to amend my exit E.g. if I reach 75% of target and want to either move to a break even position OR take full Profit (close trade). I have been told previously that this is not possible until the current bar closes and then any re-calculation/action can be done.  Does anybody know a way I can do this intra bar or when a value is hit without waiting for the bar to close, as obviously the price can retrace significantly from a 75% postion when a bar closes?

    Regards

    Steve

Topic moved to ProOrder forum as it is a strategy question and not a general trading subject. Please try to post in the correct forum with futures posts to save the moderators some tidying up work! 🙂

Yeah, easy … you can close the trade by stopping the System, but make sure you have the box ticked that says. somethng like … close trades when System is closed for whatever reason.

Manual exit of a System can be very profitable esp if the Price action has not been coded for and so if you don’t ex-t you may end up back with small  profit or even a loss!

I experiment now and again and do lots of manual exits for a whole week and I am always pleased with the results!

If you want a strategy to automatically change a stop loss or take profit mid candle then you need to use multi time frame to do this. For example your basic strategy can be based on daily candles but then on the 1 minute time frame you make a decision as to whether to change your stop loss price or take profit price. This has the down side that you will have much less history to carry out back tests on.

    TIMEFRAME (ProBacktest / ProOrder)

Thanks for this.  I’m ok with manual interventions, I’m really looking to see how I can incorporate within the coding.

Thanks again for tyhe reply GraHal
