    Dear Folk

I am viewing ADM (Admiral Group) on PRT platform of a weekly timeframe. It is fundamentally different to the same chart viewed through IG’s own platform. The shape of the candlestick pattern is similar but the levels are totally different (e.g. 15 Aug 2016 is 1979 on PRT and 2288 on IG. The current price however is identical 2237 as of today.

IG are not very helpful…is there anything I am missing here?

I have attached a screen shot of IG chart and PRT chart

    Thank you

IG deals with CFD’s, while PRT has FUTURES.

Both charts are titled Admiral Group PLC.

The charts look the sane shape from early 2017 but the black background chart shows values for the two lows (1st quarter 2017 and Sep 2017) that are about 100 more than the light background chart.

    Data error??

I think that you are comparing the real stock price value with a derivative contract build on it by IG group.

    I’m confused now.

The stock prices from Yahoo Finance is the same as CFD quotes from both IG and CMC (see attached screen shot) so I don’t see how CFD derivatives would make such a difference. As stated, the base candlestick price patterns are similar, just with different absolute values somehow?

I was planning a trade based on a break through of the all time high (w/c 15/8/16), which is clearly not indicated in the PRT chart.

Data Error seems the only explanation at this time to me.

I think that you are comparing the real stock price value with a derivative contract build on it by IG group.

Surely a derivative should differ from the real underlying by only the broker spreads etc (not consistently differ by about 100 points as in Admiral Group?) else how do we know we are not getting shafted at the whims of the broker (-100 here , + 50 there, – 75 etc?) ?

We can still be shafted by changing spreads of course!

    EDIT / PS

Unless  as Admiral Group is consistently about 100 point difference ( and maybe it is exactly 100 as I was just sighting up the cross hairs on y axis) then there may be a conversion error (real to derivative) by IG??

    Hello,

To compare the price action equally, please ensure you have deactivated the “Adjust historical data after dividends” option within the ProRealTime platform.

This option adjusts the historical data preceding a dividend issue, thus removing gapping and optimizing the use of technical indicators.

To deactivate this adjust please go on “Options” -> “Platform options” and remove in the section “Adjust historical data” the option “After dividends, for stocks”.

    Best,

    Ulrike

    Thanks Ulrike

This has been done and now the price patterns are identical. I did not realise this was the case…I forgot about dividends! I rarely deal in stocks (usually Forex or Indexes).

    We live and learn.

    Many thanks for the clarification
