I use a 3 hr T/F and since the clocks have gone back, the bar closes are at odd times. How do I change it so that the closes are at midnight, 3am, 6am etc.
What have you got your Platform set to re Timezone?
For 3 hour TF to close at midnight etc, you would need to set your Platform to UTC+1.
Yes, that’s the first thing I tried, but it just prints the same bars with a different time. I’d like to see a close at 3pm GMT as it corresponds to half an hour after the open in New York. Hope it makes sense and thanks for your suggestions.
Thinking about it … there can only be one lot of data that we ALL use?
We can only move times (Timezone) to suit our preference and to be the same as the clocks in our homes etc … but it is the same data / bars that we all look at?
EDIT / PS
Above could be a load of rubbish!? 🙂
If the data is based on price ticks then 3 hours starting at 12 and ending at 3pm could easily be different than 3 hours starting at 11 and ending at 2pm??
In short … I don’t know?? 🙁
I hope somebody more knowledgeable can enlighten us??
Just for the record … see attached, 1st image is at UTC+0 and 2nd image is UTC+1 … as you pointed out … the same bars but time shifted.
For some reason – if you look at e.g. amazon 3hr time frame, the bars are 14:00 then 17:00 etc. However for EUR/USD the bars are 12:00 then 15:00. They should be the same? Surely this is a glitch??
Probably because Amzon opens at 14, but I am only speculating, I don’t know for sure.
What I am sure of is that bars begin when the broker decided that hour as the starting/ending time. You CANNOT change that behaviour, thus setting a different TZ will simply label the same bar differently (in NY and TOKYO they are seeing the same bar your are looking at, only with a different label beneath).
On the IG platform itself – amazon is displayed as 12:00 then 15:00 (like EUR/USD) – it should be consistent across?
I spread bet the DOW through IG. On their browser based platform, the 3 Hr bars start at midnight, but on PRT, the 3hr bars start at 2am! As I stated in my first post, before the clocks went back to GMT there wasn’t a discrepancy.
I did email IG and prorealtime about this – IG thinks its a glitch from prorealtime’s side. Prorealtime however haven’t responded; have emailed them a couple of times now. Might need someone who is already connected with prorealtime to sort this out…
Hello,
I apologize for the late answer.
In ProRealTime the candle construction remains the same regardless of your timezone settings.
Candles are constructed based on the timezone of the market, and will be constructed starting at 00:00. The timezone of the market may change from one instrument to another such that the starting times of the 3-hour candles are not the same.
You may find this timezone by clicking on the “i” button next to the ticker on your charts (at the top left).
For instance, if the timezone of the market is UTC+00:00 for a given instrument and you chose the timezone UTC+01:00 for your platform, the 3-hour bars will start at 01:00, 04:00, 07:00, etc…
Best regards,
Sébastien from ProRealTime
Hi Sébastien, not sure i fully understand. Taking the DOW as an example. The ‘i’ button next to the ticker states ‘UTC+00:00 Europe/London +00:00’.
In the platform options -> timezones, I have selected ‘display all dates in the time zone set on my computer, For this session: UTC+00:00) Europe/London +00:00’
Therefore should start from 00:00??
And as mentioned, it should reflect the IG platform charts.
Also noticed that the US stocks such as amazon and apple in the ticker state trading hours as 04:00 to 20:00. So for a 2 hour timeframe you would expect it to go 04:00 to 06:00 to 08:00 etc
