Does anyone have experience they can share about executing trades with pro realtime and connected to interactive brokers? Because orders need to be paired on an exchange the degree of latency and speed of execution is very important for short term strategies. If anyone had experience with the the PRT + IB set up I’d be very grateful to hear about your experience with order execution speeds.

    Thanks.

degree of latency and speed of execution is very important for short term strategies

Surely we would never know … milliseconds or even microseconds??

If we / you could place the same order at the same time, but NOT via PRT and consistently get better prices than via PRT … even then it could be due to reasons other than speed of execution of the PRT Platform?

Anyway speed of execution would only be important if you are trying to make money on arbitrage??

There are certainly differences between platforms, different data feeds and so on. It matters because if the execution is slow you can get a lot more slippage on your order. If that happens regularly then it eats away at your bottom line. When orders have to be paired (unlike synthetic markets like CFDs or spread bets where we’re playing against the broker) i.e. buys need to be paired to sells on the order book then speed of execution can be important even for day trading strategies. There are many futures trading platforms and data feed options and Im considering which way to go. I like PRT as Ive used it for a while now trading spread bets through IG but when I trade my scalping strategy, Im tired of paying over the odds in the spread which significantly eats away at profits. Im just interested to see what others experience is like, though it would seem most users are not trading futures with IB but rather rather the synthetic markets with IG?
