Hi, I’ve just had an epiphany but wanted to make sure that it is possible.
As we know reducing a position in automatic trading can’t be done at present but…Is it possible to have 2 simultaneous systems running that have the exact same entries but one of the systems exits at first TP and the other one just changes SL to breakeven at 1st TP and carries on running?
Is that possible?
Thanks

Strategies are unaware of one another.
They can even go different directions on the same instrument/asset, provided you have enabled the hedging option with IG (I think it’s called Force Open).

09/15/2020 at 4:46 PM #144360I believe IG as a back-end broker will be throwing an error when you do the real trade , tried finding an old post where this was discussed in details but couldn’t find.
This is same as partial positions closure. PRT allows you to do so even in Backtest but IG refuses to let partial positions close via PRT.
However, please do post the findings here if you end up placing multiple orders.

09/15/2020 at 9:35 PM #144381throwing an error when you do the real trade
There will be an Order Reject (shown under the Cancelled / Rejected tab in the Order List) and an error message if 2 x same direction trades are attempted to be executed on the same instrument at the same time from another Algo.
You can get 11 x Rejects before the Algo is stopped so it is rare for 2 x same direction trades not to be executed.
09/16/2020 at 9:41 AM #144393Right okay, I’m going to experiment with this to see what happens, I haven’t had chance to do it yet (my real job gets in the way haha) when I do I’ll post the results here 🙂
09/16/2020 at 9:45 PM #144481so it is rare for 2 x same direction trades not to be executed.
I just had above scenario and I note a £9 difference in position performance (DJI at £1 per point) due to a 1 second difference in Trade execution.
