How do I avoid this error message. I was the trying to close my long position. How do you do it manually on the chart and how would you program it?

Legend

Because of slippage, the price you want to exit the trade is not available / allowed by the broker. There is no way to force it by code, and for manual trading, just try to repeat closing it until the broker accept it!
