Why is PRT so limited in terms of available datafeeds and brokers?  There should be at least 20 to choose from.  IB are good, but they’re not for everyone.  IG is unreliable.

Help me out here.  How about CQG data and AMP broker as a start?

I can say many things about IG but unreliability is not one them. What did you experience to doubt their reliability.

Sometimes volume is missing, and I don’t just mean overnight volume but day session.  Sometimes when it gets volatile like in February, the CFD prices are markedly different to the real contract.

Ok, about the volume I can imagine. I never made the effort to compare IG’s volume with “real” volume but finally what IG shows is only the tick volume of IG customers and not the volume from an exchange (if I’m not wrong here). I often wondered if this is so representative.

Then of course the spread widens when volatility spikes. That is annoying, I agree. Anyway I never was victim to unfair execution. But maybe this is different for others.

Anyway I think if you compare IG with other CFD-brokers there won’t be much difference. If you mistrust IG, I think it might be better for you to look at futures brokers like IB.

I’m aware of some studies showing tick volume is a good representation of real volume – so no problem there.  But some days on the DAX, volume is missing altogether.

For the most part I’m happy with IG, but price differentials can get enormous on odd occasions, even on liquid instruments.

tick volume is a good representation of real volume

Anybody any explanation / comparison of the two please?

I always thought volume is directly related to TF … so volume in 1 tick or volume in 1 min, 5 min etc?

Also as far as I am aware IG volume is only IG customers volume and then only for spreadbet if you are spreadbetting and only for CFD if you are CDF’ing??

I think 1 tick is 1 trade and volume is contracts/stocks traded

in the link above they claim that the volume on DAX is FDAX and thats why its only 08-22

Re me asking what is the difference / comparison, from the blog in the link above (blue are my questions?) …

Tick volume is the number of price changes that occur (over what period as 1 tick is 1 price change isn’t it?).
    Traded volume is
    the number of Contracts traded?
Transaction volume is the number of transactions.

PS Looking at my own question I see the answer … that’s why they call it tick volume … 1 tick is 1 price change so you can have tick volume for 1 min, 5 min etc meaning number of price changes in 1 min, 5 min etc.

My assumption for limited number brokers is due to the effort and complexity involved with supporting PRT. PRT has chosen to license the software to 2 major brokers and focus their efforts there. Other trading platforms – eg desktop platforms MT4/cTrader put all the onus on the trader.

IG spreads can be very average compared to many other brokers but their range of trading instruments is very large. I don’t have enough experience with many brokers but I wonder if you see a more reflective price of the real contract value at what price will you actually get filled at?

Real Pro it would be good to hear which brokers you find more reliable and in which way are they more reliable?

Hi David, yes IG’s spreads can be prohibitive.  Also, when volatility hits, there’s very significant differential between the actual futures contracts and the synthetic price IG come up with.

CQG is supposed to be the best data, since it’s used by institutions.
