Hi all, can someone help me with this PRT unreliable and annoying feature by design or just a bug. I was editing my script and PRT suddenly terminated for no reason and this happened several times over the last 4 weeks. I do save occasionally by exiting PRT and then re-invoking PRT in order not to lose my code. Only this time I spent about a day then it happened and lost all my work. Can my script be recovered somehow and is this a known bug. Also, how reliable is PTR?

After experiencing that several times, I started exporting any code every 15 minutes or so (when editing it) and additionally copying text and pasting it to my editor (Notepad++).

I sympathise with your loss of code & waste of your time / life!

How many Systems have you got listed in the screen attached ( in area at red arrowhead) ?

I’ll tell you why when you tell me how many? 🙂  If too many to count, just say too many to count!

    I have about 15 to 20 scripts.

Ah right so your PRT freezing is probably not to do with PRT hogging RAM due to having dozens of Systems listed in the window I posted above.

But the freezing could still be to do with RAM hogging / other reason as a result of doing many backtests and not closing the Platform every 20 to 30 mins or at least every hour ish if backtesting near enough continuously.

It only takes a few mins and you can use the opportunity to stretch your legs and back, toilet, make coffee etc … much better than losing hours and hours off your life not to mention losing great coding ideas!

Most of us have been in the same position, me perhaps more than most.  Above are ways I use as a work around and I can’t recall the last time I had a freeze-up!

If you sense actions getting delayed / jittery then exit with save as soon as practicable, but better still every 30 – 60 mins ish.

Keep in touch with this one (attached). If this approaches the 8GB it will definitely start to go wrong. Over 10GB ? then it *is* wrong and you are doomed.

When I see it over 6GB (it is at close to 5GB here) I start to prepare for a restart of the PRT platform. When I wait too long there may be no possibility to save etc. …

And never answer NO to that question whether you don’t want to see that dreaded message. You always will ! One exception : when it keeps on popping up so you can’t even press save …

Another kind of hint : when you do nothing, it will also eventually fail. This instance was started by me 4-5 hours back and initiated just over 1GB, I did not do a thing except for loading the editor from some 1M chart, and now it is at 5GB. I could be back with you when it is well over 5, me only drinking beerz.

    😉

Thanks, I am learning a lot from people in this community. My scripting has already improved since my first post a couple of weeks ago.
