Isn’t this site effectively a fault log? ummm I mean it really already is isn’t it?

The Platform Support Forum kinda is, but PRT / ITF need authority to access User’s specific Systems that are giving trouble.

Some of the Issues could be solved / reasons offered by applying fault finding techniques outside of  specific strategy code (as I have today with the Another Order Reject), but the Technical Report is the PRT / ITF / IG is the method they (yawn) ask us to do so we have to conform in order to move forward?

Wow I am positive … just since I thought of the Joint Technical Report Log idea! 🙂

I don’t want to kill the positivity there GraHal that’s great for sure but the yawn refers to (what’s been said countless times on here over the years) the fact that technical reports more often than not result in effectively zip/nada/nothing happening and waiting weeks/months+ and just eventually giving up – I submitted one beginning of the week as said and managed to get it past IG eventually onto ummm well I don’t know anymore – PRT? ITF? I don’t know… but with what’s just happened (why won’t @Nicolas say anything…?!) I don’t expect and have every sympathy with PRT/ITF/IG or whoever it is that is actually dealing with these issues that I am most definitely at the back of the queue and I am totally fine with that assuming there is some sense of urgency/fault finding/troubleshooting/investigation going on into what went wrong yesterday and reducing the likelihood of it ever happening again and it wasn’t just someone tripping over a wire and plugging it back in the next morning

    Anyway good weekend all

but see Vonasi is a moderator (congrats/how come?)

Because Nicolas asked. Moderators are not the police – they are just forum members who have been noted for being sad enough to spend an awful lot of time on the forums and silly enough to spend a lot of that time helping other forum members find solutions to their problems. In return for this we get some basic cleaning tools so that we can help Nicolas keep the forums tidy. In reality it is time we could spend doing something more useful rather than endlessly typing ‘please use the ‘Insert PRT Code’ button but our reward is a little inner glow knowing that we are helping a little to keep the forums on the path that they were intended to be on. Sometimes it is nice to help out for free.

Being a moderator does not mean that we are not allowed to have an opinion nor does it mean that we cannot complain about stuff that is not working.

Moderators come and go just like other forum members. Maybe because they get successful at trading or maybe because they find something else to do.

    what went wrong yesterday

I’m confused now, I didn’t pick up on this Thread of some major Issue yesterday and I didn’t experience any.
I just re-read your first post and it is all about your Platform going slow etc? Unless I am only reading what my brain thinks is written in your first post?

Max, what is / was the main symptom of whatever you are referring to by … what went wrong yesterday?

    #82114

I think I’m talking myself into the joint Log … we can try anyway?

Done!  Hope I’m not the only one who enters info?

    See here

Max, you asked me what went wrong yesterday. I don’t know, because I don’t understand what you are talking about 🙂

For some cases of specific issues, I can try to know more by calling directly ITF, so could you point me into the right direction? Be aware that I’m taking some rest…starting from now and until Monday. Have a good weekend.

    #82141

Thanks for the reply @nicolas which has quite literally blown my mind… point you in the right direction? I guess it must have all been a bad dream and everything I’ve written is in invisible ink or something and it all never happened I am just imagining my strategies were stuck for hours in stopping purgatory whilst the platform was so slow it was unusable (the title of this thread) and that others are showing tens of thousands of £’s profit/loss is all just an illusion… how the mind plays tricks eh… oh how I despair… yes please do have a chat with ITF on Monday I imagine most users will not have even been aware of what happened as it occurred over night European time and magically started working again about 8AM French time but others have experienced the tens of thousands of £’s anomaly on their strategies or perhaps it is some form of mass hypnosis and they are all imagining it I don’t know

Vonasi haha very candid as ever and yup I know what a moderator is but thought on here the idea was for it to be those that can actually potentially make a difference to our plight (ie PRT employees) but your description of how to qualifiy as one for an absolute and utter certainty sure fits GraHal! He should be Knighted!

GraHal you say you didn’t experience anything yet your very first log entry is precisely what I have been going on about… and again don’t want to spoil the party here but I am not entirely convinced yet another method of logging issues which is even further disconnected from the already painfully frustratingly tedious and more often than not utterly futile CLIENT->IG->PRT->ITF->PRT->IG->CLIENT merry go round is really going to achieve anything let alone how (akin to the sprawling and largely ignored (?) PRT suggestions thread) it can possibly be effectively organised and sorted into a coherent list of issues PRT can make head nor tail of if they were ever to even look at it that is or be presented with the ‘5 top scorers’ or whatever the plan is – there are plenty of free and paid for bug reporting ticketing systems available out there that (no offence) would do a far superior job of tracking issues and have been well thought out for all the intricicies and complexity such a system requires

For me this site just seems to have become a place for talking in ever decreasing circles about technical issues of the platform and how we the customer (!) can help the business (who make the money out of us) make their platform better whilst being on the whole totally ignored when in fact  the real reason I am here is to be able to learn how to code a strategy that will make some money trading not endlessly talk about issues and trying to resolve never ending technical problems that apparently don’t exist despite experiencing them first hand and instead am told to submit a… Zzzzzzz 🙁

Hey Max … save you getting red-faced with that high-up guy in IG that you are phoning tomorrow!? 🙂

I checked back on my wife’s account most recent response to a Technical Report submitted, and the response now hase a Ticket ID and also words that describe the original problem so it is not so much smoke and mirrors anymore (as I referred to earlier in our discussion).

But even as I write this, the Ticket ID and the response text came from PRT / ITF via IG so maybe IG are still smoke and mirrors  on their responses?

Anybody add any more / recent intel on latest format of responses to Tech Reports from IG?

(for clarification (but I stand to be corrected?)  PRT is the name of the Platform and ITF are the Software House that own / maintain PRT. In some of your posts (re moderators etc?)  you seemed to have got the impression that PRT and ITF were kinda separate?)

    #82213

Hi GraHal yes I’d seen there are now ID numbers/can confirm my latest ‘tickets’ have them… well it is a number but talk about Mickey Mouse – not exactly pro level support system is it so I don’t think I will be the one getting red in the face (other than with frustration)

Yes I always thought PRT is ITF same thing but in that other post about moderators Nicolas said something like they are from PRT and “Level 2” support is from ITF which I took to mean they are actually not the same business/PRT is a spin off of ITF’s technology? I don’t know anymore maybe they are one and the same… don’t really care anymore…

Is happening again – IG AUS DEMO PRT (IG UK DEMO PRT seems to be ok)

Half a dozen strategies stuck in ‘stopping’ state have now finally stopped – platform running very slow – just going through the exclamation mark error messages and got the attached about an external modification to the order – I haven’t done any order manipulation from IG dashboard so no idea where this is coming from?

Also got the attached re: memory usage – I don’t have an awful lot open but am running a lot of 1 second strategies and have both IG UK DEMO PRT and IG AUS DEMO PRT open at the same time (which seems to eat up all my CPU even if I just have one of them open otherwise they seem to compete/share the max available CPU) – is this what all the problems are about? Am I running too many 1 second strategies it is causing problems? Should I not have both platforms open at the same time? (at the moment AUS is showing as disconnected/PRT windows are showing as ‘no data/not connected’ but UK is fine and all windows updating fine/connected fine) And why is PRT only using upto max 6GB RAM/how do I change it – 16GB available in my machine

Chatting to IG support now who confirm there are no known issues at the moment but there were last week on the demo side of things – @Nicolas did you get a chance to talk to ITF yet? thanks (and just been told by IG to submit a arrrrgh….)

is this what all the problems are about? Am I running too many 1 second strategies it is causing problems?

I find I get more weird Issues when I run more than 1 Platform.

I am in the middle of sorting my Platforms so I have only 25 Systems in the Pro-Order Auto-System  running window and None in the System Backtest List (I exported ****’s to my PC.

It is almost depressing having to do this as I never throw the baby out with the bathwater  and I am running them all up on backtest and even changing Market and Timeframe (with some surprising increase in Performance) before I then export the Systems to my PC and file under Good, Bad, Mid or Currently Trading in GH SB, Currently Trading in GH CDF … etc.

I have forced myself to do above (driving me mad doing it!) and I stopped Real Time Live trading months ago so that I would complete the Task one day … before Christmas is the Target!

Anyway (after baring my soul! 😉 ) I said above because I find that I get less Issues than I used to in the past, can’t prove anything of course, and may be due to driving the Platforms less intensive etc.

I also close the Platform and reopen again to continue after I have done several intensive / long backtests etc.

Just a few ideas MaxT anyway, might save you giving up again as I feel you are close to doing so!?

Just went to submit a report despite being incredibly slow response and noticed the RAM usage Bar (in the subit report window) was up at limit – thought to close the ProOrder AutoTrading window to see if would see any change in RAM usage – no change – thought to close each window one by one to see what was causing the high RAM usage and ended up with only the main toolbar left open and RAM still up at maximum of 6GB

Closed and reopened PRT and loaded Default template – opened submit report window to show RAM usage and hovering around 800MB occasionally bursting to just over 1GB platform responding near instantaneously

Have all my issues been due to a corrupt template? But why the orders stuck in ‘stopping mode’ and crashing out?

    #82257

RAM still up at maximum of 6GB

Yes we had a big discussion about this … PRT does not release RAM after it has hogged it! This is why I open and close my Platforms after an intensive session.

You posted 2 mins after me, so did you read the other tips I offered as you may overlook the post?

    #82258

But why the orders stuck in ‘stopping mode’ and crashing out?

I get this when a Market is closed … mainly at weekends and I am clearing out Loser Systems etc … the System then stays as stopping until Sunday night / Monday when the market opens.

    #82261

Hi GrahHal – right ok yeh I didn’t see the discussion about the RAM hmmmm… not impressed…

They were all on major FX pairs started half an hour before they crashed out and stuck in stopping state…. I know about this happening if market is not open as obviously if there is an open position in the strategy it needs to wait until market is open in order to close the strategy/yup know all about that but this is not what is happening here and what of these ‘external sources’ that closed the trade/strategy…?!
