Back test not starting

I’ve been having some issues over the last few days with back tests in demo not running when you click on ‘Probacktest my system’. The optimize report window appears and the progress bar window appears but the back test does not run and nothing is ever shown in the optimize report window. I have to click on ‘Stop’ to cancel the back test and then if the strategy coding window was closed any of the last changes get lost. The only way to get the strategy to run a back test is to close it down completely and then re-start it.

Yes I had the exact same scenario / symptoms over this last weekend.

After the 250 point spike messing up my Systems I decided to transfer 7 or 8 recent Systems to my wife’s account Demo Account and start afresh. So I checked them all over with Backtest and got all the same Issues you mention.

    Hi both,

In order to allow us to analyze your platform, please send us a technical report by following these instructions:

    – As soon as you encounter the issue, go to the “Help” menu on the ProRealTime toolbar.
    – Please assure that the window concerned by this issue is open.
    – Click on “Help center”, then on “I have a technical problem”
    – Choose the category “Automatic trading”
    – Give the name of the code you are referring to.
    – To benefit from a technical help we need you to authorize us the access to the crypted code. To give us a temporary access, please check the box “I authorize the decryption of the codes (…)”
    – Give as many details as possible, explain the issue you are having in the text box and mention
    – Click “Send report”

This will send us a report containing technical information concerning your platform, which will allow our technical team to run a diagnostic analysis of the issue you have come across.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Jakub

    Hello Jakub

I don’t think this is specific strategy related as I have been working on several different ideas today and it has happened regularly with all of them.

Just now I wrote a strategy and on the first attempt to run it it failed to run. I closed down all windows relating to it and found it in my list of strategies and clicked on modify and then tried to run it again and it failed to start a back test again. This happened three times in a row until from the list of strategies I clicked to run it first rather than modify it and then it started the back test correctly.

The problem with the method you have suggested for sending a report is that it is necessary for the strategy to be in our list of strategies running live or ready to run live to be able to send the report with permission to access the code. Whilst developing a strategy it is not in this list. Should we send a report relating to a window instead?

It just happened again and eventually crashed out asking me if I wanted to send a report so I have.

This problem is now making back testing on the demo platform impossible. Having to shut everything down and then start everything up again repeatedly is hopeless. Even then it still sometimes fails to run a back test and then even if it does if you click on a different result in the optimize report window it fails to bring up the new results and just sits in an endless loop of loading.

I’m glad (no sorry, not glad! 🙂 ) you have these Issues Vonasi as I get all you mention and I always thought it was just me driving the PRT Platform and my PC too hard!

….and I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one having these issues.

Reply from IG today on this issue:

We have received feedback from ProRealTime regarding your issue(9354) of your back tests not running each time. ProRealTime has advised that they have identified the problem and their developers are currently working on a solution for this.

Once their developers have implemented the solution we will also send through an update.

    Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Hopefully this one will be solved soon.

Just having this Issue again when I choose another set of optimised results other than the top set!

I’ve just found a way round this … make a note of the variable value then stop loading  that never ends then insert the value in the Fixed Value box then ProbackTest my System then it finishes with no loading  that never ends.

Hope that makes sense, just ask if not?

    This issue is still happening.

I have to make sure when I am writing a strategy that I tick the box to keep the programming window open. Then I have to have several attempts to start a back test running. Sometimes when it does not start (shows blank optimization window and progress window with no progress) just clicking again will get the back test to start but on other occasions the windows need to be shut down before attempting to restart the back test.

It is making using the demo platform a very frustrating experience.

This fault is still evident. PRT demo backtesting is almost impossible to get results from today without repeated attempts.

This fault has now been evident on the platform for 25 days which is but a blink of the eye compared to some of the other faults that I have reported. Come on IG/PRT pull your finger out and get something fixed – please!

This was one of the many issues I was experiencing the other day/the mysterious issue that I was apparently imagining…. backtests took an age to complete if at all… everything came good in the morning (French time) and are ok now too/am able to backtest OK – as I’ve said a few times I am abroad and issues I had with PRT (afer that big server ummm cough cough ‘crash’) were resolved by performing an IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS on my laptop so I would guess that meant my machine was still looking at the old server IP addresses or something – might be worth a shot if haven’t already tried it Vonasi but yeh sorry probably won’t help…

This fault is still evident. Backtests are taking three or four attempts to get started and then sometimes once you have managed to get a back test to run then when you click on an optimize report result it fails to load the chart to show the results.

38 days and counting since I first reported this fault.

when you click on an optimize report result it fails to load the chart to show the results.

Yeah I had above and used the work-around below.

Demo Platform seems nothing but work-arounds these days!? 🙁

I’ve just found a way round this … make a note of the variable value then insert the value in the Fixed Value box then ProbackTest my System then it loads the chart to show results.
