After tonight: no more holding over weekends

  I gotta learn the hard way i guess, had 6 trades open, was +500€ in running profits, checked the opening tonight and was instant -500€ when trades where closed.

  Thats a rough one! Ive checked all my systems now and made the “Sell at friday 22:00” rule on most of them. I backtested holding thru weekend vs  vs selling b4 weekends and i decided to sacrifice some pips here and there where possible. The correlation of having a bunch of long only stock index over the weekends are way to correlated and thus scary for future “black swans”  like a gap down over the weekend like the ones we saw tonight!

  The big momentum last friday opened trades in 3 different systems that could have exited on friday with around +300€.. doh, oh well.. live and learn amirite.

  And im guessing when i wake up that most of the gap down has probably been eaten up again lol

  A sell at 2159 rule might work better as if you actually hold a position at 22:00 then you get charged – even if you only hold it till 22:00:01.

  For forex shorts you need an exitshort at 22:01 rule to get paid the interest before exiting!

  I did some tests a while back and it actually worked out quite profitable to buy an index just before 22:00 and sell it later (maybe the next day) as often the price drops just before 22:00 due to all the selling activity to avoid fees.

  interesting and nice to know!

  Tho i cant sell at 21:59 on 1h candle so might want the “sell at 22:00:01” and hopefully manage a manual sale around 21:59:00 to avoid the cost.

  You can if you use MTF and launch the strategy on a faster time frame. I think that we are still needing to ask to have MTF activated on live accounts and the answer is not always ‘yes’!
